8 Ways to De-stress Tonight

For me, the following tips work like a charm. I hope they work for you as well.
  1. Take a deep breath and as you exhale- let go of everything that went wrong today. Accept it. It happened, there's nothing else you can do about it for now.  
  2. Unplug. Phone, computer, TV- shut it all off and enjoy the silence.
  3. I like to go to the store and buy myself flowers. There is something about fresh flowers that makes me feel at peace while I trim the stems and arrange them in my home.
  4. Along with flowers, I like to treat myself to a nice bottle of wine, moscato or champagne.
  5. Billie Holiday is it; her voice is so therapeutic. Find your therapy and reintroduce sound into your evening.
  6. The next step is subject to interpretation. Let your brain do very little-to- no thinking and zone out doing something you love. I get lost in giving myself a manicure or simply painting a new art piece or finishing an old one.
  7. If you don't feel like zoning out doing something- skim through a magazine. The point is to calm your thoughts and relax. 
  8. If number 6 doesn't float your boat, combine #5 and #7 in a hot warm bath. 
It is impossible to de-stress if your brain is thinking 20 steps ahead of you. You need to take some ME time. I cannot emphasize how important my first tip is; let whatever is stressing you out go- you cannot control your past or future- you can only control the here and now. Take advantage of the present moment and turn it into your happy place.
